Samsung hold a position of eminence on the global TV manufacturing world. In Korea, where Samsung is headquartered, the company accounts for 15% of the country's GDP. When you couple this with the size of the workforce - reportedly 22000 employees strong - you can see how it's achieved it's strong position.

Samsung 3D TV models were among the first 3D TVs available to buy, with their breakthrough LED 3D TV model leading the pack. This stunning model is 0.3 inches thick, just about the width of a finger, and truly earned its description as an ultra thin, flat panel TV.

Samsung 3D TV products work by using licensed technology from leading 3D cinema developers RealID, and gives 1080p resolution images to each eye.

Based out of South Korea, Samsung Corporation is a little younger than some its Japanese competitors. Founded in 1938 by Le Byung-chull, the company began life as Samsung Sanghoe. It focused on trade at its birth, employing only 40 employees in Su-dong. This precursor to the Samsung Group did well in local greengrocery and dried fish, eventually moving to Seoul in 1947. However, the outbreak of the Korean War forced the company to leave Seoul and shift to sugar refining in Busan, creating the first sugar refinery in South Korea. In the 1960s and 1970s, Samsung experienced booming growth, expanding into areas of insurance, retail and securities. In the late 1960s the Samsung Group entered the electronics industry, creating Samsung Electronics Devices Co., Samsung Corning Co., Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., and Samsung Semiconductor & Telecommunications Co.

The company would join the forefront of global electronics in the 1980s and '90s. Samsung Electronics invested heavily in research and development, soon manufacturing and shipping a wide range of electronics and home appliances all over the world. This allowed the company to begin expanding globally, building manufacturing plants in Portugal, New York, and England in 1982, 1984, and 1987, respectively. The global expansion ushered in a new era for Samsung, thrusting them into the lead position for manufacturing certain electronics and components.

Today, Samsung are making a massive splash in the ongoing 3D TV market, particularly with the UNC series.

The UNC7000 series of LCD televisions come in 40-inch, 46-inch, and 55-inch models. Every model is able to produce stunning, sharp 3D in high-definition at 1080 pixels, thanks to the active shutter system. This 3D technology allows only one image to enter each eye, alleviating the usual image distortion that accompanies the traditional anaglyph method. White and black quality levels are top-notch, thanks to the LED Edge-lighting built into the televisions. UNC7000 TVs are also extremely thin, coming in at only 1.4 inches in depth.

UNC8000 models offer an even larger screen size. Models measuring 45 and 55 inches are still available, but Samsung adds a 65-inch model to the mix as well. This series is even thinner than the UNC7000, achieving a thinness of less than half an inch. The astonishing thinness of this series is accomplished by placing the system's sound buffer and a few other components inside the base stand rather than the set itself. The same 1080p resolution and distinct black levels are available here, but the refresh rate is bumped up to 240Hz. The largest model is a bit more expensive, though, costing $5,000.

There are only two models in the UNC9000 series-46 and 55 inches. Though it lacks the largest display size of the UNC8000s, it's the thinnest of the bunch at only 0.30" in depth. A brilliant touch screen remote is included, capable of both infrared and Wi-Fi connectivity. This remote can control television functions and also browse media and music from a PC. It also allows video playback so you can continue watching a movie or show even if you leave the room. Resolution, refresh rate, and Edge-lighting are all available in UNC9000s, with the 55-inch model priced at $6,999.

All Samsung models include a 2D conversion chip, allowing 2D content to be viewed in three dimensions. Samsung's app store is accessible through the TVs' Wi-Fi connectivity, so consumers can gain access to the likes of Netflix, Twitter, Picasa, Pandora, and much more. There's even an Internet TV service, providing streaming content directly to the televisions.

Samsung's line up of 3D TVs for 2011 promises to be one of the success stories of the year. Coupled with the growth of new 3D TV channels, and the 3D TV networks that they reside on, Samsung look sure to be right in the forefront of the 3D television revolution.
Samsung are approaching the 2011 3D TV market with a headlong assault resulting in the range of Samsung 3D TV models being one of the biggest of all the 3D TV manufacturers. Samsung are reportedly anticipating sales of 6 million 3D TVs in 2011, hence the intention for around 80% of the range to be 3D capable - with a plan to get some of that sales increase realized by embracing passive 3D glasses technology on the sets. Samsung reportedly led the market in new 3D TV sales for 2010 - with research agencies reporting that they were responsible for over half the sales of TVs in both Europe and the US. The same reports do suggest though that Sony and Panasonic are both making some progress on closing the gap on their big Japanese rival.

The Samsung 3D TV line up for 2011 includes lines of three full LED 3D TV models, six plasma 3D TV sets, and one LCD 3D TV. All models are compatible with 3D Blu Ray players for viewing 3D content such as 3D movies, all require 3D glasses to enjoy the content, and all provide internet connectivity in addition to the Samsung 2D to 3D conversion capability. Internet ready 3D TV sets include 46 inch and 55 inch D7000 and D8000 range models, with Samsung expressing intent to go all out to grab their share of the Smart TV market with target sales of 12 million units.

The new combined 3D/Smart TVs feature a 3D sound system and full HD displays, reduced power output on the plasma sets, and various technology improvements to optimize coulour, picture contrast, and on screen motion. Interactive features offered include the ability to watch a TV show and automatically pull out keywords that allow a viewer to search online. An example might be that you're watching a movie trailer and can easily search in real time to see what cinemas nearby are showing the movie. Internet interactivity is delivered by Samsung's own 'Smart Hub' application, which displays internet links on the screen as icons.

Samsung are also intending to release their own 3D VOD video on demand streaming service in the Autumn of 2011. The new service is reportedly planned to work in partnership with PictureBox, and will offer viewers the option to watch a variety of 3D content on demand, with around 50 titles in initial library plans.
